Information for Employees, October 28, 2022

Good afternoon, employees.  We would like to provide you with the following update from finance, payroll, and human resources.  Please read the information carefully.

Customer service team

Our customer service team, which is serving as a liaison between employees who have experienced a payroll-related issue and the finance, payroll, and human resources departments, has completed its visit to schools.  Additionally, central office employees are meeting with supervisors to document any concerns.

Next week, customer service team members will be available at the Rader Center and Central Office to meet with employees who were not able to meet with the team when it was at their school.  Meeting with a team member is optional.  Please work with your principal or department supervisor to make an appointment to discuss your payroll-related issue with a customer service team member.  The schedule is below.

Tuesday, November 1

9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. – Rader Center, 240 Eighth Avenue, Cramerton

1:30 until 5:00 p.m. – Central Office, 943 Osceola Street, Gastonia

Wednesday, November 2

9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. – Rader Center, 240 Eighth Avenue, Cramerton

9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. – Central Office, 943 Osceola Street, Gastonia

** Please note that this opportunity is only for employees who were not able to meet with the team previously; if you have met with the customer service team already, it is not necessary to do so again.

Supplement for teachers and certified instructional support personnel

As discussed at the Board of Education meeting in September, the state approved a salary supplement for teachers and certified instructional support personnel for the 2022-2023 school year.  The state teacher supplement amounts to $84.34 per month for 10 months beginning in August 2022.  In October, we paid the supplement to qualified personnel for three months: August, September, and October.  This totaled $253.02, which was reflected on the October payslip.  Beginning in November, the state supplement will be for just one month ($84.34) until May 2023.  Please note that the November paycheck for personnel who qualify for this supplement will be lower than the October paycheck since the October check included payment for three months.  There is no information at this time from the state regarding the amount of any future state supplements.

Longevity pay

We have paid longevity to the eligible employees who missed payment in July, and we are working on correcting the longevity pay issue for August (this affects a small group of employees).  Longevity payments for September and October have been paid.  We would like to remind you that only non-certified employees qualify to receive longevity pay.

Oracle support

A payroll specialist from Oracle has been in Gaston County Schools to help us address current and outstanding issues.  We’ve also had support from an off-site Oracle team that has helped us with making corrections.  Additionally, Oracle support is working to help ensure that our future payroll runs are done in an efficient manner.

Please know that our finance, payroll, and human resources personnel continue to focus attention on correcting payroll-related issues.  Thank you for all that you do for Gaston County Schools, and we hope you have a nice weekend.

Gary Hoskins, Chief Financial Officer
